David C. Ghatan is a graduate of The George Washington University with an interdisciplinary degree in Design with emphasis in Fine Art, Art History, and Theatre. David has worked on a wide range of architectural projects, including BC Place Stadium, the American Red Cross National Headquarters, The Corpus Christi Bayfront Arena and Convention Center, and the Starlight Ballroom at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York City. His work includes a variety of projects in hospitality, corporate offices, multi-family residences, government and religious projects. The Watergate Hotel in Washington, DC and Sands Capital Management Office in Arlington, VA received the 2017 IES DC Candela Awards.
David is involved on lighting committees and boards. He recently served as President (2018-2019) of he International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) and his previous roles include President Elect (2017), Director-at-Large (2011-2013) and Treasurer (2013-2017). He’s active with the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA) on the Hospitality Committee.
David continues to design scenery and lighting with his local theatres. He’s a company member with Rorschach Theatre, where his work has been nominated for a Helen Hayes Award.
David bases his aesthetic on the concept that a designer, by definition, synergizes mediums in producing their art.
